Take a look at the place, the people and the ice cream
Founded in 2019 by the dynamic duo of Kamal Manilal and Roshni Morar, Roska Artisan Ice Cream has evolved from a humble home kitchen experiment into a beacon of gastronomical delight within South Africa’s premium culinary scene. What began as a means to channel personal grief and a break from the corporate world for Kamal, turned into a pursuit of passion, with ice cream at its heart. Armed with an ice cream maker, a gift that lay unused for 14 years, and a few cherished recipes, Kamal set out to craft ice creams that reminded one of a simpler, more authentic time. It was a moment of inspiration and he began experimenting.
The ice cream creations were initially meant for friends and family, but as their popularity grew, so did the vision for Roska. Teaming up with Roshni, a seasoned brand specialist, the couple envisioned a brand that could rival major luxury ice cream names. The brand became a portmanteau of their first names. Their unique selling point was to harken back to a time when ice cream was crafted with care, devoid of mass production, and made with fresh, ethically sourced ingredients. The ice cream contains no milk powder or artificial flavourings, offering a pure and indulgent experience.
Today, Roska stands as a testament to what can be achieved when passion meets purpose. The brand is celebrated not only for its exceptional taste and quality but also for its commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. With a MasterChef seal of approval, Roska’s offerings are relished at renowned high-end establishments like Olives & Plates, Tashas (Nelson Mandela Square), Proud Mary and a few distinguished hotel groups like Southern Sun, Sun International and Radisson Blu. Its retail presence spans prestigious outlets including Superspar, Food Lovers Market and a pioneering shop-in-shop concept at Checkers FreshX in Sandton City. Nestled next to established brands like Starbucks, this dedicated space within Checkers Sandton City not only provides a platform for Roska to showcase its premium products but also allows shoppers to indulge in a delightful culinary experience amidst their shopping routine.
